Bathroom Renovation Dumpster: Size & Cost Guide 2025

Bathroom renovation dumpster guide: best sizes, tile and fixture weight tips, cost expectations, and a simple timeline for demo and cleanup.

What size dumpster for a bathroom remodel?

A single bathroom gut usually fits in a 10 or 15 yard dumpster. The old vanity, toilet, tub or shower surround, tile, drywall, and flooring sound like a lot, but they break down into a surprisingly compact load. The 15 is my default recommendation because the lower walls make loading easy and you get a buffer for surprises behind the walls, which every remodel has.

If you are doing two bathrooms at once, or the bathroom is part of a larger remodel touching other rooms, step up to the 20. The extra length costs a little more but prevents a mid-project swap, which is the most expensive way to lose a weekend.

Tile, fixtures, and the weight trap

Bathroom debris is deceptively heavy. Tile, mortar, cast iron tubs, and concrete subfloor patches are dense, and a dumpster can hit its weight limit while still looking half empty. That is the number one cause of overage fees on bathroom jobs. Break tile into manageable pieces, spread heavy material flat and low across the floor of the container, and tell us up front that the load includes tile so we set the right allowance.

A cast iron tub alone can weigh 200 to 300 pounds. Get help lifting it, and set it in first, flat on the bottom. Same with the toilet: drain it fully before it goes in, or you are paying to haul water.

A simple demo and cleanup timeline

Schedule delivery for the morning of demo day so the container is on site when the first tile comes off the wall. Demo a single bathroom takes most people one to two days. Load as you go rather than piling debris in the hallway; a staged pile slows everything down and creates a tripping hazard. Keep the load below the top of the walls, and keep paint, chemicals, and aerosol cans out of the dumpster entirely.

When demo is done, the dumpster stays for the rest of the project to catch packaging, cut-offs, and old fixtures as the new materials go in. That is the real value of having it on site: the job stays clean from demo through finish, and pickup happens when you are done, not on a fixed clock.

Conclusion

One bathroom: 10 or 15 yard. Two bathrooms or a whole-floor remodel: 20 yard. Watch the weight on tile and fixtures, load flat and low, and schedule delivery for demo morning. For the full walkthrough, see our bathroom remodel dumpster guide or estimate your load with the dumpster size calculator.
